Controls
Sonic and the Secret Rings has a different control that most other games. Instead of holding the Wii Remote in one hand, you hold it sideways in two hands like an NES controller with A, 1, and 2 buttons facing up. The B button should be down. The control pad should be near your left hand and the 1 and 2 buttons should be near your right hand. Sonic runs on rails in Secret Rings, so there is no need to move forward. You control Sonic's movement by tilting the Wii Remote.

Moving Left and Right
Either tilt the Wii Remote down on the left side to move left, or tilt down on the right side to move right.

Jumping
By quickly tapping the 2 button, Sonic will do a long, low jump which doesn't lose much speed. Useful for jumping over spikes or other hazards on the ground. By holding down the 2 button, Sonic will start to slide. He slows down in this slide, but can also attack enemies if a certain skill is enabled. When letting go of the 2 button, Sonic will launch himself into the air. From there, he can either do the Homing Attack by shaking the remote toward the screen or drop to the ground by pressing the 2 button again.

Homing Attack
When Sonic has launched himself up into the air, you can lauch him forward with a jerk of the Wii Remote toward the screen. If there is an enemy nearby, a red curser will appear on the enemy. If you do a Homing Attack there, you will attack the enemy. This can be done multiple times when there are a lot of enemies nearby. You can also target some items, such as flying pots and catapults.

Stopping and Going Backward
When Sonic is running, you can make him stop by pressing the 1 button. He will skid to a stop. If you tap the 1 button, Sonic will slow down a bit. Very useful when navigating a dangerous path. To make Sonic go backward, you need to twist the controller toward yourself, about 140 degrees. If you go too far, it won't register and Sonic will start going forward again.
